Water condition downgraded to level 1

Recent rainfall and improved streamflows mean the Quinte Region has moved out of a Level 2 Low Water Condition to a Level 1.
“Precipitation for September has been close to normal and streamflows have improved,” said Bryon Keene, Quinte Conservation Water Resources Engineer. “Downgrading to a Level 1 does not mean that our aquifers and groundwater supply have recovered.  People on wells may still experience difficulty with their water supply.”

During a Level 1 Low Water Condition, Keene says residents and businesses are encouraged to reduce water usage by 10 per cent.

“While conditions are improving, people should still be careful with how they are using water and limit non-essential water usage.  We will need to see at least normal precipitation for the rest of the year to see a return to normal water conditions after this extended dry period.”

Quinte Conservation issued the first low water warning this year in April.  The Quinte Region entered a Level 2 Low Water Condition on July 30.  The local environmental agency continues to monitor precipitation and stream flows and provide updates.

A Level 1 Low Water Condition means the potential for water supply problems has been identified.  Low water conditions are ranked as Level 1, 2 or 3 based on a prolonged period of low flows or precipitation. A Level 1 is the least severe and Level 3 is the most severe.
