Wellington Beach posted unsafe for swimming

The Hastings Prince Edward Counties Health Unit has posted Wellington Beach as unsafe for swimming.
The Health Unit monitors bathing beach water quality at designated public beaches within its jurisdiction. Bathing beach water quality is monitored by the collection and analyses of water samples. Samples are analyzed at a public health laboratory for the presence of E. coli bacteria. When E. coli bacteria exceed the provincial standard, the bathing beach is considered to be unsafe for swimming and the following warning sign is posted at the beach:

  1. Ken Globe says:

It’s too bad, considering we live 5 minutes away from Wellington beach. The Outlet gets too crowded, and Point Petre’s undertow can be too dangerous, plus all the garbage and broken glass down there now from arseholes who can’t clean up after themselves and have no respect for other people.

  2. virginia says:

E coli contamination of lakes and rivers is often just a natural phenomenon from birds, animals, etc and exacerbated by warm summer weather. I suspect a lot of people don’t really worry about it that much.

  3. Doris Lane says:

There are quite a few closures over time at Wellington beach it is down stream from the sewer plant. A few years ago there were alot of things that washed ashore up there, fish, birds and other species, I don’t think they ever got to the source of the problem.

  4. Gary Mooney says:

Does anyone know the source of the E. coli pollution? One possibility is surface runoff after a heavy rainstorm. Another is sewer overflow, or sewer leaks, also after heavy rain. But I don’t recall a heavy rain in Wellington within the past few days.

  5. Doris Lane says:

People were out there swimming on Sat afternoon–sign too small they need a sign like the one on your article only bigger
