What you need to know – Country Living 101

Rural properties offer unique challenges and opportunities for homeowners. Those who are new to a rural property or are thinking of purchasing one, need to know how to keep drinking water free of contaminants, maintain a septic system and understand waterway and wetland regulations.

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, April 22 at 7pm at the Bay of Quinte Golf and Country Club as the Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan presents Country Living 101.

A top priority for any rural landowner is ensuring the family’s source of drinking water is kept safe. This means keeping your well free of contaminants that can invade it from a variety of sources. Guest speaker, Kim Yee, Ministry of the Environment, Well Specialist, will discuss the importance of proper well construction and maintenance in keeping your drinking water safe.

Living on a rural property provides the opportunity to work with the natural environment, saving you time and money. At our information stations, you can speak one-on-one with environmental professionals about: maintaining your septic system, how and where to get your well water tested, and what regulations affect your shoreline. As well, there will be the opportunity to find out about cost-sharing programs for shoreline improvement projects, where to purchase tree seedlings, the benefits of composting, and actions you can take to preserve wildlife habitat.

The information stations will have representatives from: Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan, Lower Trent Conservation, Quinte Conservation, Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit, Hastings Stewardship Council, and Quinte Waste Solutions.

The Bay of Quinte Remedial Action Plan is in partnership locally with Lower Trent Conservation and Quinte Conservation
