UPDATE DEC. 27: A Special Weather Statement about freezing rain on Sunday has been issued by Environment Canada for the Bay of Quinte area.
Maps show most of the freezing rain predictions of 5 to 10 mm accretion include the mid and north part of the County. There remains some uncertainty regarding the track of the low pressure system and as a result exact ice accretion amounts are somewhat uncertain.
Freezing rain is expected to begin Sunday afternoon or evening through to Monday morning before transitioning to rain showers or flurries.
As temperatures are expected to be fairly close to the freezing mark, it is possible some areas will receive rain Sunday afternoon and evening.
White Christmas arrives on Boxing Day
A white Christmas came late Boxing Day as some 8-12 centimetres of snow was predicted to fall by midnight in Prince Edward County.
Environment Canada issued a ‘yellow’ warning for the County and much of southern Ontario, also noting wind gusts of up to 50km/h.
The snow is to become light after midnight under a low of -11 that with the wind chill feels like -20.
Saturday is expected to have a 40 per cent chance of flurries in the morning with a high of -5, then -11 in the afternoon.
Periods of snow are forecast for Sunday with the temperature at -4.
Environment Canada has eliminated weather watches and now issues warnings in three colours: yellow, orange and red.
Yellow is considered to be the most common, meaning hazardous weather which may cause damage or disruption or health impacts are moderate, localized or short-term. Orange is considered to be uncommon, calling for severe weather likely to cause significant damage, disruption or health impacts. Orange impact is considered major, widespread and may last a few days. Red alerts are called rare, dangerous and possibly life-threatening causing extreme damage and disruption.
