Work under way to address local impact of opioids

Over the past year, Hastings Prince Edward Public Health has been working with local partners to better understand the impact of opioids and other drugs in the region.
Together with input from local partners and individuals with lived experience, HPEPH has completed an assessment aimed to find out more about opioid use and overdose, including barriers and gaps that are making it difficult for people to access treatment and support, as well as what processes are helping people who use drugs to better access treatment and harm reduction services.
The resulting report identifies a number of recommendations to address the way local partners can respond to the opioid crisis in the community.
In the coming weeks, HPEPH will be working with key stakeholders to review the recommendations and develop a collaborative plan to determine how they can be implemented in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
