Young cyclist in collision, speeders charged

An 11-year-old boy was struck riding his bicycle was sruct by a motor vehicle while he attempting to cross the road Friday in Picton.

Prince Edward County OPP was dispatched to King Street at about 2:47 p.m. The youth went to Picton Hospital with minor, non-life threatening injuries. No charges were laid.

Speeders in the County
Earlier Friday, while conducting vehicle patrol, officers witnessed a vehicle on County Road 1 travelling at a high rate of speed.

A 25-year-old Picton man was charged with excessive speeding. His vehicle was impounded for seven days and he is to appear at the Picton Court at a later date.

A half hour later, while still on County Road 1, the same officer observed another vehicle at a high rate of speed.

A traffic stop was conducted and the driver, a 67-year-old woman from Toronto, was charged with race motor vehicle and excessive speed. Her vehicle was impounded for seven days. She is to appear in Picton Court at a later date.

Sunday, police were informed by a citizen that a suspicious male was seen carrying a knife while walking on Main St. Picton.

Upon police arrival, a 22-year-old male from Picton was charged for carrying a concealed weapon. He was issued an appearance notice with a Picton Court date of May 30, 2018.

In a separate incident, police stopped a motor vehicle near a RIDE program on Elk St. during the early morning Sunday. The driver, a 25-year-old Hallowell resident, was issued a three-day license suspension after police detected an odor of an alcohol beverage and administered an approved screening device (ASD).
