100 People Who Care make Christmas ‘meowy’ for 300 cats

Christmas came early for some 300 cats at the Loyalist Humane Society as the 100 People Who Care PEC group presented $8,500 Wednesday afternoon.

The LHS, at 1297 County Road 4, is where care is provided for abandoned and stray animals while pursuing the ultimate goal of finding forever homes.

Gail Robinson, LHS President, graciously accepted the much-needed donation from Richard Byers, Jim Rose and Susan Grant, who nominated the charity.

“It is most appreciated,” said Robinson, who notes it’s the generous community, committed staff, valued volunteers and wonderful local veterinarians that have made the LHS the success that it is today.

The LHS is a no-kill centre, established in 1999.

It is a charity that warms Susan Grant’s heart, and as a member of the 100 People Who Care, she has put forth the LHS nomination several times before but it had not been chosen. (Names of finalists nominated are pulled from a hat).

“They are amazing here and totally dependent on volunteers,” said Grant, adding they don’t get regular funding from anywhere. “It’s all donations, sponsors and fundraising, so I think this is well deserved.”

100 People Who Care Prince Edward County has contributed more than $210,000 to charities in the County since it formed in the fall of 2017. It is based on the concept of bringing together a group of 100+ people who commit to contribute $100 four times per year to make a huge impact on a local charity. The other three recipients this year the Prince Edward Learning Centre, Hospice Prince Edward and the HOPE Centre. Click here to learn more about the group.

The LHS is open by appointment only. Click here to visit its Facebook page for updates and candidates looking for forever homes.
