Ruby Young, attended the hospital auxiliary's annual general meeting and is shown with a framed copy of her pen and ink drawing of the old Picton Hospital. Briar Boyce photo
A pen and ink drawing of the old Picton Hospital (now Picton Manor Nursing Home) by Ruby Young, 83, was presented by Fran Renoy, right, to Lisa Mowbray, patient services manager at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. The hospital auxiliary commissioned Paulette Greer, of SideStreet Gallery in Wellington, to frame the drawing and it will be hung in the new corridor at PECMH. Ruby has created a series of drawings featuring many of the County’s historically significant buildings. Five of her sons were born at the old Picton Hospital, so it seemed natural to include it in her series of drawings. She gave three prints of the drawing to Fran Renoy, a volunteer with the PECMH Auxiliary. Fran donated them to the PECMH Auxiliary and Hospice Prince Edward. All feature Ruby’s trademark signature – a tiny mouse, with the letters “R” and “Y”. Ruby volunteers at Picton Manor. Briar Boyce photo

About the Author:
Thank you SO much! I was born at that hospital! Had my tonsils out when I was four…
And, not many seem to remember what a huge part of the community it was ‘back than’…our only hospital, serving the entire County…
Apparently, none of the records survived when the hospital changed locations…
I have always been looking for my actual time of birth…June 12, 1952…
Cheers…
Will Ms, Young be publishing her drawings? I would certainly be very interested in purchasing either a book or individual prints of her drawings. I enjoy everything about the “good old days” including family genealogies.
