200 livestock killed due to fire next to barn in Ameliasburgh

Conditions from a fire early this morning killed 200 livestock (chickens) in a barn on County Road 19 near the village of Ameliasburg.

Prince Edward County Fire & Rescue Division 5 and station 6 firefighters were called to the blaze about 9:50 a.m. Thursday, April 7.

Fire Chief Chad Brown states firefighters were able to contain fire to the inside of a 10-by-10 metre building attached to the large barn.

“Conditions within the smaller building claimed 200 head of livestock, which were housed inside the building,” Brown reported, noting damages are estimated at $150,000.

The cause of the fire is determined to be accidental.
