Howling good time at Hub Halloween party

More than 40 children had a howling good time at The Hub family resource centre’s annual Halloween Fun Day and open house.
The HUB Child & Family Centre welcomed guests to visit the Ontario Early Years and Family Centre and licensed child care space. Meanwhile, children ate pumpkin cookies, ghosty bananas and pumpkin oranges. They participated in face painting, carved pumpkins, made crafts and paraded their costumes (see video).
For more information about the centre, call Susan Quaiff, 613-476-8142 email susanq@thehubcentre.ca or visit the website www.thehubcentre.ca
The HUB is a community family resource centre serving the needs of parents and children in Prince Edward County.
Before & After School
Even after school is out for the day, children need to be engaged in a comfortable, yet stimulating child care environment. Our innovative before and afterschool program allows kindergarten and school age children to balance learning and fun through a variety of experiences. For more information, contact our Middle Years Coordinator, Stacey Stanford.
The school age program provides opportunities for individual and group activities which promote cooperation, self-confidence and skills development:
– Arts and crafts-modelling, paper mache, painting, and sculptures.
– Active play- organized games, individual activities such as dramatic and creative play which encourage gross motor development and cooperation.
– Quiet play –activities such as board games and puzzles.
– Science and Nature- a variety of resource materials expose children to the world around them and satisfies a sense of inquiry.
– FUN! We have fun, a place to relax, enjoy your friends company and be a kid!

Internet Safety Program
This year we will be working to develop an internet Safety Program focused on younger children aged 6-10. Children have access to a number of devices now that have access to the internet. This younger target age group has a particularly difficult time perceiving the risks that may be just around the virtual corner.
This year we hope to develop medication materials and a series of workshops for younger children and for parents, care givers and teachers engaged with this younger age group.
