The Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board (ALCDSB) officially broke ground on the replacement for St. Gregory Catholic School in Picton.

The board welcomed students, staff, representatives from Prince Edward County, board trustees, Father George, the architect and construction teams and family members to the official groundbreaking ceremony at 175 Talbot St.

“This new build comes at a perfect time as the Prince Edward County community continues to grow and thrive,” said Carey Smith-Dewey, Director of Education. “St. Gregory Catholic School will provide a welcoming and modern space for our students and will serve as a vibrant community hub for years to come.”

The board purchased the new site in 2022. In March of 2026, the Ministry of Education approved the board’s request for additional funding to build St. Gregory Catholic School, allowing construction to begin this spring.

This project is part of the province’s capital investment program to support students with better learning spaces.
This $24,498,874 project will provide 354 elementary student spaces, 15 learning studios and fived learning commons.

While this work is being completed, the St. Gregory Catholic School community will continue to be housed in the existing St. Gregory Catholic School building located on Owens Street in Picton.
