Additional charges laid in roofing scam

As their investigation continues, OPP Prince Edward detachment officers have laid charges related to fraud in an alleged roofing scam amounting to about $29,700.

The investigation began July 16, 2019 when two people reported they had paid for work on their roofs, but the work had not been initiated. As of July 29, 2019 five other victims have come forward with complaints of roofing work that was paid for but never done.

A 37-year-old Consecon based contractor was charged in July 2019 with two counts Fraud over $5,000 – Criminal Code – 380 (1) (a)

Friday, Aug. 16, CRANDALL was additionally charged with the following offences:
Fraud Over $5,000 – Criminal Code 380(1)(a)- three counts
Theft Over $5,000 – Criminal Code 334(a) – four counts
Fraud Under $5,000 – Criminal Code 380 (1)(b) – one count
Theft Under $5,000 – Criminal Code 334(b) – one count
Use, deal, acts on Forged Document – Criminal Code 368 (1)(a) – one count

He accused was released to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019.

The OPP are still canvassing for any other victims to please come forward to the Prince Edward County OPP Detachment by calling 1-613-476-2151.
