Officials, guests and visitors to the 29th Ameliasburgh Fair paid tribute to the military during the parade and opening ceremonies Saturday.
Second World War veteran Ralph Margetson, 93, was dressed in the tunic he wore at his wedding 65 years ago and after addressing the public, told them he decided to wear the jacket because “I saw in the paper that anybody in uniform would get in for free.”
Special guests on the Roblin Lake Park stage also included 8 Wing-CFB Trenton Commanding Officer Col. Dave Cochrane, who was parade marshall; Prince Edward Hastings MP Daryl Kramp, Prince Edward Hastings MPP Leona Dombrowsky, Prince Edward County Mayor Leo Finnegan and Quinte West Mayor John Williams.
Roy Pennell, Ameliasburgh Fair Chairman, thanked the men and women, past and present, of Canadian Forces for their dedication and sacrifices.
Col. Cochrane thanked the community for its support of the Canadian Forces and CFB Trenton and presented Margetson with a special plaque.
Under a sunny sky, fun and entertainment followed with lawnmower pulls, craft and art demonstrations, a silent auction, livestock show and square dancing – along with plenty of food and entertainment.
