Amy Rutherford named 2011 Rising Star winner

Amy Rutherford faced stiff competion among 15 entrants to win the fifth annual Picton Rising Star competion, held this year as part of Canada Day celebrations. For the past four years, the popular event has been held during the County Fair in the fall.
The competition offers youth between the ages of four and 18 the opportunity to share their talent. Participants are showcased throughout the year at various venues.
During preliminary competition at Benson Park during the day, four performers rose to the top and were chosen to sing in the finals held at Delhi Park, preceding the fireworks.
2010 Rising Star winner Katie Shannon opened the competition singing O’ Canada. Rutherford, Gavin Massey, Abby Chapman and Madison Oliver sang their hearts out for the crowd. Volunteer judges throughout the day included, Round One: Mark daSilva John Burns, Barclay White and Amy Sedore. Round Two: Fraser Hardman, Robyn Heather, Dewey Larratt-Smith and Evva Massey-Henry and Round Three: Katie Shannon, Tracy Douglas, Megan Hutton and Caleb Hutton and Rick Zimmerman.
“The performances were fabulous,” said host and emcee Jeanette Arsenault. “You all did a great job. Thanks to all the contestants, parents and friends, our sponsors, the Picton BIA and Picton Rec Committee.”

I really enjoyed being able to have the guts and step up to the plate of performing. It was a great experience and congrats to Amy, The Micheal Buble song was FANTASTIC. I also wanted to say congrats to all of the performers for doing their best. Finally i say GREAT job to the top 4! 🙂
