Picton Pirates’ goaltender Andrew Pearson has been named the Empire Bs league’s Top Goaltender for the 2012-2013 season.
“Pearson was a rock between the pipes in his second season with the Pirates, leading all goaltenders in every statistical category,” said Ryan Woodward, GM and Head Coach.
Pearson finished the regular season with a staggering 1.75 goals against average and .943% save percentage. Pearson allowed just 37 goals against in 22 games played and registered 5 shutouts. His record of 20-1-1 led the Empire by a wide margin.
A goaltender that is calm in the net, makes the big saves and gives the Pirates a chance to win every night is how his coach described his play this season.
“Andrew has been outstanding for us this season,” said Woodward. “He has a veteran presence in net and he never gets rattled. He makes saves look easy and his competitive nature brings out the best of him in big games. Andrew has been a stand-out since he arrived in Picton last season. He is a role model in the community and has tremendous character. I am very proud of him and happy to see him get the recognition he deserves.”
Pearson, and goaltender Adam Wood, the GM said, are without a doubt “the top two goaltenders in the league” and will be looked upon to lead the way during the playoffs.
“We are extremely fortunate to have two goaltenders of their quality at this level. Both give us a chance to win every night. Woody has been working his tail off to get healthy and back to form. Both goaltenders have supported each other all season no matter who was in net and that is an example of the character these two players add to our dressing room.”
The Pirates will look to carry the momentum they built down the stretch in the regular season into the first game of the playoffs.
“Everyone starts with a clean slate in playoffs,” said Woodward. “We are confident in this group and the players are ready to prove themselves starting in game 1.”
