Picton’s Angry Birds restaurant owner Michael Hymus presented $40,500 raised from the recent ‘Eat for Kids’ promotion where 100 per cent of sales from meals were donated to the HUB Child and Family Centre expansion project.
“Special thanks to the team at Angry Bird’s for all they do and making these fundraisers possible,” said Hymus.
Staff and customers raised raised $20,248 during the promotion which was matched by Hymus to make an even $40,500.
“The young families of Prince Edward County matter, and it is my sincere pleasure to do what I can to help,” said Hymus. “The HUB is a stepping stone for so many young children, my son included, and I am proud to help them create an even better future with the proposed addition.”
The donation brings the fundraising thermometer tally to $625,000 of the HUB’s $1.1 million goal, said Susan Quaiff, the HUB’s executive director.
“We can’t thank Michael Hymus enough for his support,” she said. “He is the main reason the splash pad at the Picton Community Centre happened and his constant support is so wonderful. He is always so supportive of many things here in the community.”
The HUB, located on McFarland Court in Picton, is planning a 3,220-square-foot expansion of its existing space. It will include a multi-purpose space and will offer more opportunities within the community, as well as bringing all staff back under one roof.
As a not-for-profit organization and a registered charity, the HUB has served the children and families of Prince Edward County since 1989, by providing early learning and child care services to local families. Primarily serving children aged 0-12 years, their programs, activities, education and resources are intended to grow healthy families.
