Applications extended for new Young Women in Leadership program

UPDATE: Attention young women in the Bay of Quinte! The 2018 Young Women in Leadership program has extended its application deadline. Any interested applicants can visit https://goo.gl/forms/SM6JNhl7kJVsdvk02
to register before Monday, April 30th.

Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis learned about interesting career choices at Research Casting International, when he met with students Breanna and Chloe who were learning about opportunities through the federal Canada Summer Jobs program. They were creating fibreglass pieces for the exhibits.

MARCH 8 – Women seeking jobs in male-dominated fields will find opportunity to learn in a new Young Women in Leadership program launched on International Women’s Day by Bay of Quinte MP Neil Ellis.

The program consists of a placement period, where young women will travel to workplaces throughout the Bay of Quinte during the week of May 14th-18th to participate in a shadow day with a local employer.

“It will focus primarily upon sectors and jobs that are viewed as ‘male-dominated’, demonstrating to young women that they are capable of achieving success in any career,” said Ellis.

Female youth from Belleville, Quinte West and Prince Edward County between the ages of 16 and 24 are invited to apply.

YWiL will offer young women throughout the Bay of Quinte community a chance to learn from successful community members first-hand, in their place of work. This mentorship aims to promote the development of soft skills and workplace experience, while demonstrating to young women that they can succeed in roles and sectors that are traditionally occupied by men.

Sectors of focus for mentors include business, finance, STEM, non-profit, trades, and public works and services.

To apply, candidates are welcome to apply via MP Ellis’ constituency office (100 Station St., Belleville), the Facebook page or official website. Applications are being accepted from now until Monday, April 30.

“I am excited to be launching the Young Women in Leadership program here in the Bay of Quinte,” said Ellis. “By supporting and investing in the young women within our community, they are empowered to lead well in each and every role they choose in the future.”
