Boil water advisory lifted for Consecon, Carrying Place

JULY 20: The boil water advisory for all users in the Consecon/Carrying Place Drinking Water System has been lifted by the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Health Unit.

  • Affected users can resume normal use of municipal drinking water without bringing it to a boil.
  • The Consecon/Carrying Place Drinking Water System receives water from the Trenton Drinking Water System (DWS). The boil water advisory was implemented as a result of an emergency shutdown to repair a critical watermain break in the Trenton DWS. Operators of the Trenton DWS have conducted repairs to their system.
  • Sampling in both the Consecon/Carrying Place DWS and the Trenton DWS have confirmed that water being received and used in the Consecon/Carrying Place DWS meets provincial water quality standards and is safe to drink and use for all domestic purposes.
  • The municipality recommends that affected users flush household plumbing through the cold water tap until water runs cold to the touch.
  • The County will reopen on Friday, July 21 the coin-operated bulk loading station in Carrying Place.

UPDATE JULY 20: The D.J. MacDonald Bridge in Trenton will be closed Friday, July 21 as part of emergency repairs of the water main break in Trenton which also services parts of Carrying Place and Consecon.

On Monday, July 17, Quinte West water/wastewater staff discovered a significant water main break in the primary Trenton Water Service water main located under the Trent River beside the bridge.

On Tuesday, staff engaged an underwater repair contractor to install a temporary repair clamp on the water main which stabilized the supply of water to customers in the affected service.

Work has begun to install a temporary water supply line over the bridge which will maintain water supply to Trenton Water Service customers west of the Trent River until the water main under the river is permanently repaired. That is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete.

JULY 18: Hastings Prince Edward Public Health (HPEPH) has issued a boil water advisory for all customers connected to the Consecon/Carrying Place drinking water system – effective Tuesday, July 18 at 5 a.m.

The boil water advisory has been implemented for a large portion of Trenton and Consecon/Carrying Place as a result of an emergency shutdown to repair a critical watermain break in the Trenton drinking water system. The Consecon/Carrying Place drinking water system receives water from the Trenton drinking water system.

Affected customers are advised to bring water to a rapid boil for at least one minute prior to using it for domestic purposes (e.g. drinking, making infant formula and juice, brushing teeth, washing raw foods and making ice).

For more information regarding the boil water advisory please contact the Hastings and Prince Public Health at 613.966.5500.
The boil water advisory will remain in place until such time that bacteriological tests prove that water is within accepted quality and safety limits.

Once the boil water advisory is lifted, affected users are recommended to flush household plumbing through the cold water tap until water runs cold to the touch.

All customers are asked to avoid any non-essential water use, including watering lawns and gardens until the boil water advisory is lifted.

The coin-operated bulk water station will be closed until the boil water advisory is lifted. Customers can access bulk water from the Wellington and Picton bulk water hauling stations.
