Boy seriously injured in boating incident

UPDATE: Aug. 22: The operator of a boat that struck a 12yr old Belleville boy while he was swimming has been charged with Careless Operation of a Vessel under the Canada Shipping Act.
On the 15th of August at 4:50pm, emergency crews were called to North Bay, an inland lake close to Lake Ontario and North Beach Provincial Park after receiving several 911 calls about a swimmer that had been struck by a power boat. Officers learned the boy was part of a day camp group that were enjoying tubing activities on the water just moments before being struck. The victim had just finished his tube ride and was swimming near shore when the boat, now pulling another camper, ran over him.
The victim was struck by the boat’s propeller causing serious injuries to his torso, however he is stable and continues to recover in Kingston General Hospital.
Jacob ELLIOT age19yrs of London, will appear in Picton court on the 28th of September to answer to the charge.
A 12-year-old Belleville boy is in serious condition in a Kingston Hospital following a late day boating incident yesterday on North Bay, an inland lake close to Lake Ontario and North Beach Provincial Park.
Emergency crews were called at 4:50pm Wednesday, Aug. 15 to the inland lake area at North Beach Provincial Park, south of Consecon, after several 911 calls were received about a swimmer that had been struck by a power boat.
Officers learned the boy was part of a day camp group that were enjoying tubing activities on the water just moments before being struck. The boat was being operated by a 19yr old camp counsellor working for the camp, but lives in London, Ontario.
The victim had just finished his tube ride and was swimming near shore when the boat, now pulling another boy, ran over him.
The victim suffered serious injuries to his torso and first aid was administered by witnesses until paramedics arrived and transported him to Trenton Hospital. The victim was then transferred on to Kingston General Hospital.
The investigation is continuing into the matter.
