Buck Moon lights up the sky this weekend

July’s full moon is known as the Buck Moon, and here it is seen creeping above the tree line, rising over farmer’s fields as the crops prosper. This was taken before fullness Friday night, and with the sun yet to set, the moon rises in daylight, until the sky gradually darkens to reveal a glowing ball of light. The buck moon appears to the eye to be full all weekend but is at its fullest overnight Saturday into Sunday. July’s moon is also sometimes referred to as the Thunder Moon, Raspberry Moon, Feather Molting Moon, Ripe Corn Moon, or Mead Moon. – Sharon Harrison photo
