Active Living Programs for seniors 60+ are available five days/week through the Prince Edward Community Care for Seniors. Also on offer is online events each month.
The Active Living Programs (ALP) offered include fitness, social and recreational activities both online and close to where seniors live. Membership in ALP is available to seniors 60+ for $25/year/person. Membership benefits include: full access to all programs and events (some programs may have additional fees); meet new friends; discover a new hobby, skill or talent; receive monthly updates of programs via email or a phone call for people without email.

Community Care office and thrift store closed for Labour Day
The Prince Edward Community Care office and Thrift Store will be closed on Labour Day, Monday, Sept. 7 reopening Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 9 a.m. Meals on Wheels will be delivered as usual.
Hot Meals on Wheels – available up to five days/week
This program has been operating in Prince Edward County for 46 years and is open to any senior 60+ who needs support. Delivery to the door of a hot nutritious noon-time meal. Now available up to five days/week anywhere in Prince Edward County. Receiving a hot meal at the door means seniors have a regular check-in to help them stay safe and well in their own home. Pick up your Active Living Program Guide
What’s new at Community Care? The fall Active Living Program Guide has been released to the public! If you’re already an ALP member, you’ve been reading up on all the exciting programming on offer at the County Senior’s Centre and in community halls in the coming months. This new seasonal guide provides members course outlines and early sign up access to all the wonderful programs being offered from September to December. From informative webinars to art and music classes to seniors’ fitness training, the walking program, social euchre and bridge games and more, if it’s happening at the Senior’s Centre, it’s in the guide.
Stronger U Fitness Training – Sept. 8th
Join this eight-week fitness bootcamp with Fitness Powers on Tuesdays from 11am to noon beginning Sept. 8th at the Picton Town Hall. The cost is $40 for the seven-week series for Active Living Program members age 60+.
In person Chair Yoga with Tamara Kayfetz – Sept. 11th
Breath work, relaxation techniques, gentle stretching and movement. Most of the class is done seated, however participants should be able to stand assisted with a chair. Fridays 9:15 to 10 am from Sept. 11th to Nov. 20th. 10-week series for $70 for Active Living Program members.
In Person Better Balance with Tamara Kayfetz – Sept. 11th
This class offers exercises, stretches and strengthening techniques to improve balance, focus and awareness of your body in space. Ability to stand and walk with or without assistance is required. Fridays from 10:15 to 11am Sept. 11th to Nov. 20th. $70 for the 10-week session for Active Living Program members.
Upcoming Webinars with Community Care
Join the County Seniors’ Centre for a series of informative webinars this September — designed to help older adults stay informed, engaged, and living well at home. Upcoming Webinars include: Home Energy Efficiency for Seniors, Tuesday, Sept. 9th. Madeline Meades of Environcentre offers tips on how to save money, improve comfort, and cut emissions. The presentation is from 1-2pm at the County Seniors’ Centre Wellness Hall and will also be made available on zoom; The Garden County of Canada with Terry Sprague, Sept. 10th 1-2pm. One of the County’s preeminent field naturalists and historians’ takes you back a century ago when Prince Edward County produced canned fruit and vegetables for consumers across Canada. From the rise of canning magnate Wellington Boulter to the end of commercial tomato canning in the early 1990’s, Terry’s telling of rise and fall of canning in Prince Edward County is sure to well attended; Get informed about the upcoming municipal election on Sept. 15th when County of Prince Edward Deputy Clerk Catherine Sprague presents The 2026 Municipal Election & Your Voice in the County from 1-2pm in the County Seniors’ Centre. This informative session will be available both in person and on zoom.

Curbside pick-up meal – Thursday, Sept. 17th
Prince Edward Community Care holds monthly curbside pick-up meals. September’s event is on Thursday, Sept. 17th and Kelly Bannister is preparing a meal of lasagna, garlic bread, Caesar salad, soup, fruit salad, and desert.. The cost is $20 per meal. Meals will be packaged hot and ready to be picked up at 12pm at Elks Lodge, 21 Elk Street in Picton. Advance ordering and payment are required – call 613-476-7493. First Aid, CPR & Emergency Preparedness for Older Adults – Sept. 23rd
ReadyPEC is offering a practical, hands-on First Aid, CPR, and AED session on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd from 9:30am – 1:30pm at The County Seniors’ Centre, 74 King Street, Picton. This session is designed especially for older adults. These small-group sessions (maximum 12 participants) will be led by certified instructor Mike Bond, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, practice skills, and build confidence.
This is not a certification course. It’s a friendly, supportive session focused on learning practical skills that can help you respond in an emergency and support family, friends, and neighbours. Registration fee is $10. Lunch is provided.
Tai Chi Classes – Tuesday, Sept. 29th
The County Seniors’ Centre will be offering beginners and continuing Tai Chi from Sept. 29 to Dec. 15 at the Bloomfield Town Hall. The Beginner Class starts Tuesday, Sept. 29th from 9:30am – 10:30am while the Continuation Class -starts Tuesday, Sept. 29th 10:30am – 11:30am. For more information call 613-476-7493.

Art Classes with Claudia Jean McCabe – Sept. 30th
Come unleash your creativity with Claudia Jean McCabe as she teaches how to bring out the inner child through the discovery of art with fluid acrylic paint. This five-week series is open to all skill levels. Registration is required and cost is $75. Classes start Wednesday Sept. 30th at the Wellness Hall and take place from 10 to 11:30am. North Shore Euchre Social – Starting Oct. 2nd
Prince Edward Community Care is offering social euchre for seniors starting Friday, Oct. 2nd from 1:30 to 4 pm at the Sophiasburgh Town Hall in Demorestville. Advance registration is required, along with $5 to play. Refreshments are included. Call Community Care at 613-476-7493 to register.

Seniors Information & Active Living Fair – Nov. 12th, 2026 – Wellington & District Community Centre
Prince Edward Community Care is hosting the 9th Annual FREE Seniors Information and Active Living Fair. There will be over 50 vendors from the community showcasing the services they offer, as well as presentations and entertainment. This event starts at 10am with opening ceremonies and activities until 2pm. Organizers recommend planning to attend for the full day. All are welcome! Free lunch & refreshments while supplies last. Minds in Motion
Minds in Motion® is a community-based program designed for individuals living with early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia, together with their care partners. The program combines gentle physical activity with engaging mental and social stimulation in a positive, supportive setting. Mondays at the County Seniors’ Centre from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Volunteer Drivers needed
Prince Edward Community Care is seeking volunteer drivers for the escorted transportation program with availability of 2-3 hours a week to escort clients to medical appointments or for essential shopping trips. This volunteer opportunity is wonderful for those looking to meet new people in the community, and a chance to have a conversation along the way. Drivers are desperately needed for this essential program. Volunteers are contacted by agency staff 2-3 days in advance of a drive as same-day rides are not provided. The Thrift Shop accepts donations during regular hours of Mondays 1-4pm and Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm. Volunteers Needed at Thrift Shop – particularly for Saturdays

Ontario Energy Support Program assistance
Do you struggle with your hydro bill? The Ontario Energy Support Program (OESP) is a program that can provide help for eligible low-income seniors. An eligible household ($28,000 or less for one person or $28,001 – $39,000 for a two person household) can receive between $35-$75 monthly credits on their hydro bill. Staff at Prince Edward Community Care can answer questions for seniors 60+ and help submit the OESP application. Seniors who have received Renewal and Information letters from OESP, can arrange for Community Care staff to help facilitate this renewal process. Seniors … borrow a tablet to get involved with online programming
Prince Edward Community Care and the PEC Library partner to make tablets available for seniors to participate in online programming. Training and support for seniors is provided by Libraries of PEC. Foot Care Clinics accepting new clients
Prince Edward Community Care operates Foot Care Clinics in Picton, Wellington and the newly re-opened Rossmore location. Infection control protocols for clients and staff are closely followed. Rides to medical appointments
Prince Edward Community Care offers an escorted transportation program that helps to maximize the independence of seniors with friendly volunteer drivers who closely follow all pandemic safety protocols to keep everyone safe. This program provides rides for seniors 60+ to medical appointments wherever they need to go including local or to destinations further away. Rides for essential shopping are also provided. The fee is reasonable for the clients and is based on .50/km. The volunteer waits with the client while they are in the appointment. Volunteer drivers are needed with a particular focus on providing local rides for seniors in Picton. Volunteers are contacted 2-3 days in advance of a drive as same-day drives are not provided. Groceries, medicines, & library books can be delivered
For seniors 60+ who have an assessed need, Community Care volunteers will pick up and deliver groceries, medicines, library books and other essentials. To arrange for an intake with a staff member call Prince Edward Community Care at 613-476-7493.
Delivery to the door of nutritious frozen meals for seniors
This program is for all seniors 60+. Delivery of frozen meals can make it easier on those days when meal preparation is difficult. These frozen meals are low sodium, high quality and tasty. They can be heated in a microwave or conventional oven. Prince Edward Community Care offers frozen meals to seniors 60+ who live anywhere in Prince Edward County. Seniors who need help with outside work can call Prince Edward Community Care. The agency has carefully screened workers at reasonable rates. Help is available for outdoor work such as fall clean up, and snow shoveling. Pandemic safety protocols are in place. Telephone Reassurance Program
Prince Edward Community Care has supportive volunteers that can offer companionship, encouragement and warm friendly conversation to seniors to just chat, to help with the uncertainty of the pandemic, provide reassurance, and to help keep people safe. Rural Route Reassurance Program
This free program is available through a partnership with Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers. Prince Edward Community Care can arrange for your mail courier en route to keep a watchful eye on your home to help keep you safe.
