Cash, jewelry and firearm reported stolen

Update Jan 4 – A male known to the victim has been arrested and charged with the following criminal offences:
Break, Enter and Commit and Indictable Offence
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
The 36-year-old male, of Ameliasburgh Township, is to appear in Ontario Court of Justice Picton Feb. 1 2017 to answer to the charges.
Most of the stolen property, including the long gun and pellet gun, has been recovered.

Two break and enters were reported to Prince Edward OPP over the past few days. One to a Main Street, Picton business and the other to a private residence in Sophiasburgh.
The first was reported to have happened between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. Dec., 31 2016 where a front window to a local pizzeria on Main Street Picton was smashed. The business’ cash register containing a quantity of cash is reported stolen.
The second incident was reported on the evening Jan. 2 2017. A resident on Kimball Lane in Sophiasburgh reported they returned home at approximately 10 pm and discovered the home had been broken into. One long gun, a pellet gun, electronics, jewelry and ice skates are among the items reported stolen.
