CIBC removes Bloomfield’s ATM; building sold

Customers who use the ATM at CIBC in Bloomfield were surprised to find the machine has been removed without warning as the former branch location has been sold.
Steve Campbell, owner and publisher of County Magazine says he was floored when he was first told he would have just 15 days to vacate his side of the building where he has crafted the popular magazine for the past 33 years.
“CIBC called two days before pulling the bank machine – not enough time to warn everyone. They tried to find an ATM location in Bloomfield last fall, but failed,” Campbell said. “I have had conversations with CIBC to say they would stand by our original lease agreement, which allows me 60 days. I am working on a new location here in Bloomfield.”
Elliot Reynolds and Laura Borutski, formerly of The Hubb Eatery at Angelines, will gut the building to prepare to open a pub and restaurant.
CIBC Bloomfield customers learned last March the branch would close in September – one week short of 62 years at the 257 Main Street location.
Customers hoping the branch would have a change of heart filled the Bloomfield Town Hall last June for a community information meeting hosted by the bank. A petition was presented with about 450 signatures from disappointed, and angry, customers.
“The branch will close. At the end of the day it’s a business decision,” Jon Kastikainen, a CIBC senior manager, told them. “This team will be moving to the Picton location.”
