More than 800 County residents raised their coffee cups in support of Hospice Prince Edward and gathered $22,500 toward the development of a four-bed residential hospice facility. Attendees at the first County’s Largest Coffee Morning, held June 7 at about 50 homes, churches and coffee shops, drank County-roasted coffee donated by Brad Lynd and Esther Howard. The inaugural event exceeded all expectations in fundraising and support, said Wayne Carruthers, event co-ordinator. And of equal importance, it allowed conversation about Hospice and its many services provided free of charge to County residents. At the presentation of the cheque from the Coffee Morning Committee are, Kathleen Hegedus-Beeksma, Esther Howard, Marianne Malachowski, Fran Renoy, Wayne Carruthers, Brad Lynd, Carolynn Whiteley and Nancy Parks, Hospice executive director. Hospice Prince Edward is a non-profit, non-denominational organization whose mandate is to provide palliative and bereavement support to families and individuals of all ages in Prince Edward County.
