Comedy Country returns for summer fun in the County

Comedy Country returns to Prince Edward County with a summer-long comedy series featuring monthly shows by talent from across Canada alongside hilarious locals.

The series runs May through September with monthly events pairing the big-city comedy talent with local host company Taste That! at a host of venues throughout Prince Edward County.

Gavin Crawford, best known for his eight seasons on This Hour Has 22 Minutes and host of CBC Radio’s Because News, will headline the series with his newest one-man show “Friend” “Like” #Me live at The Regent Theatre in September where Crawford takes the audience on a clickbaiting spiral of hilarious characters from off- and online.

Opening the season in May is the slick and stylish sketch comedy of Toronto quartet The Lusty Mannequins, freshly-crowned “Best of the Fest” at The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival in March, their comedy is equal parts emotional, wordy, and physical.
Their style is said to be Robertson Davies throwing a cocktail party with Helena Bonham Carter, Kristen Wiig and Mr. Bean on the guestlist.

Plans for the June, July and August events include stand-up comedy, improv, musical comedy and sketch comedy from premium Canadian acts Tall Boyz II Men, and The Bloody Marys from Toronto, and Success 5000 from Edmonton.

And for those who think they’d like to give comedy a try, Comedy Country is offering companion comedy workshops to coincide with performances led by some of Canada’s very best comedy talents. More information about the workshops can be found on the Comedy Country website.

Comedy Country is a special project of The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting and supporting Canadian comedic talent. Picton residents Paul and Julianne Snepsts founded The Toronto Sketch Comedy Festival in 2005, and remain Executive Director and Festival Producer of the organization.
