UPDATE JAN. 21: The County ended its weather declaration Tuesday afternoon, noting the weather has subsided.
Crews will continue to work to clear roads over the next several days.

Artwork by Grade 5 and 6 students from CML Snider School in Wellington is now in action as County staff clear the roads. The students had taken part in a variety of learning activities with council members and staff from many departments. As part of their activities, they “left their mark” by painting a snowplow blade and wing. Teachers who would like their class to participate in youth engagement activities with the municipality, should reach out to the Clerk’s Office at clerks@pecounty.on.ca – County of Prince Edward photo
JAN. 20: With flurries and snow squalls expected to continue overnight Monday and into Tuesday, the municipality has declared a ‘significant weather event’ – especially related to the southern portion of the County.
Environment Canada continues its snow squall warning, in which it states heavy lake effect snow could bring 20 to 40cm throughout Tuesday, continuing into Wednesday morning. Cold also remains with a high of -11 and a wind chill near -22.
Locations from Sandbanks to Milford and south are again expected to see the highest snowfall amounts. In addition, westerly winds gusting up to 60 km/h could result in significantly reduced visibility in blowing snow.
The County reports a significant amount of snow fell Monday, especially in the southern portion of Prince Edward County. Heavy lake effect snow with accumulation of 20 to 30cm was forecast Monday.
During the significant weather event, the County advises residents to use extra caution as the municipality may not be able to meet its maintenance standards for roads and sidewalks due to the heavy snowfall.
The declaration does not change how or when the municipality performs its winter maintenance operations. However, it may take the municipality longer than usual to clean up the roads.
The municipality recommends those affected by the snow to avoid travel if possible, or drive according to weather conditions and give snow plows lots of space as they clear the roads.
