County group hosts meeting for community FM radio station

Prince Edward County could have its own FM radio station if a local group gets its way.
The “Ad Hoc Committee for County Community Radio” will hold a public meeting at 7pm Wednesday, Nov. 30th at the Bloomfield Town Hall to kick off planning for a community-owned and operated radio station in Prince Edward County.
The meeting will discuss the purpose of the proposed radio station and the action plan for submitting a license application to the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). The meeting will also elect a leadership group who will be responsible for developing the station’s business plan and license application.
The meeting will also consider programming ideas including programs on farm issues, health, local music and the arts, civic issues and local history.
Prince Edward County Mayor Peter Mertens will address the meeting. It is open to all County residents who want to get involved in creating a radio station strictly focused on the needs of residents and visitors.  A donation of $10 is required.
The Ad Hoc Committee, consisting of Prince Edward County residents Conrad Beaubien, David Simmonds, Gary Mooney, Rick Conroy and Treat Hull, was as the result of two larger meetings held in the late spring and early summer to explore the idea of a low-power FM radio station to serve the County.

  1. David Simmonds says:

More information about the state of play on the community radio station initiative can be found at http://www.county-community-radio.ca. We look forward to a strong attendance and fresh ideas on November 30.

  2. John Goslino says:

Good prospective developments for community radio in the county. The station proposal could benefit from a sound business and marketing plan, and there are plenty of ideas in a unique resource book called Participative Marketing for Local Radio, freely available on the following webpage, http://www.audiencedialogue.net/pmlr.html
