County health care pros moving for wellness

Quinte Health Care launched its staff wellness campaign at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton last week as part of a new mission to create opportunities and a culture staff feel better, healthier and are more energized.

As part of the campaign, QHC is creating a “Staff Wellness Room” at each hospital where staff, physicians and volunteers can visit on their breaks from work. Each room is to be equipped with skipping ropes, yoga mats, weighted balls, exercise DVDs and a massage chair. Some of
the rooms that have more space, such as at Picton, also have a treadmill and other equipment.

“It was a really close race, with PEFHT improving in the second week, travelling a total of 3.36 times around the County but the Cardiac Rehab team walked 3.89 times around the County, giving them the win,” reports Kerry Ford, of the PEFHT. “That’s a whole lot of steps for everyone involved. The combined steps total was 7,621,390 steps.”
