Focus on community input

The Prince Edward County Community Development Commission seeks input input from the community to determine strategic priorities for the County in the coming years.
The public consultation process started with interviews and an online survey. This month, community focus groups are taking place in July.
The purpose of the focus group is to provide residents with an opportunity to give feedback in a collaborative setting.
Three focus groups are being offered:
– July 18th at 1pm – Community Focus Group, Hillier Town Hall
– July 18th at 7pm – Community Focus Group, Wellington Town Hall
Based on initial feedback collected, two additional focus group sessions specific to the County’s tourism and agricultural sectors were held in Bloomfield. Operators in tourism and agriculture attended.
Anyone may attend any of the focus group sessions. Registration is free of charge, but limited to 30 people per session.

The timing arranged for the agriculture focus group could not have been worse and only one farmer (semi retired) was able to attend. I think that someone could have thought of the season and time of day!
I attended last night’s session at the Wellington Town Hall.
Interesting process.
I have my doubts that our elected officials won’t buy into the final plan. Why? Because there is no clear, concise
agreement amongst the Mayor, Council and the bureaucrats on the PURPOSE and PRINCIPLES of Economic Development. There isn’t even agreement on the PURPOSE and PRINCIPLES of Municipal government. Until there is not much will change.
Even the facilitator of last night’s session confused PURPOSE with VISION. They are very different !
