County Marathon racers determined despite rain and cold

Despite rain and cold, the 9th annual County Marathon racers made their way through the County Sunday.
The Boston qualifier event also featured a half marathon and team relay. Picton’s Tim Johnson placed eighth in the marathon run and four of the to 10 relay teams were from The County.
Ron Hackett (photo above) also returned to the County event this year. Hackett lost his sight in 1966 and started his triathlon career in the mid 1980s. Since, he has run in countless marathons, road races and triathlons – including The Montreal Half Ironman, and the Challenged Athletes Foundation Half Ironman, in San Diego, California. He has also competed in three World Cup Triathlons; in Montreal, Perth, Australia and Cancun, Mexico; winning 2 gold medals. Most recently, he was the first blind Canadian to compete in one of the Four Desert Races – a 250 km self sustaining race across the Sahara Desert over five days; each day varied in distance.
Hackett finished 48th on Sunday with a time of 3:39:06.0 running with guide Tim Scapillato, who finished 49th with a time of 3:39:06.2. Also shown above is Mike Stockfish, bib 297, of Aurora. He finished 65th.
