Local men will skate with the Habs

Coach Guy Lafleur will put three local men to work when the Habs meet the County Kings Sunday, March 4 at the Wellington arena.

Online bidding to join the Monteal Canadiens alumni team was a battle right up to the 4:30 p.m. deadline yesterday but three local men will become honourary alumni as the Canadiens face the County Kings Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. in the Wellington Community Centre.

Mac MacGillivray will play forward for the Canadiens; Don Duscharme will be on defence and acting trainer will be David Shore.

“These three gentlemen will be honourary alumni for the day,” notes Jen Goodman, of the event’s host, the PEC’s Parks, Culture and Recreation office. “Their day will include lunch with the team, press interviews, getting dressed with the Habs in their own custom Hab gear, and then working the bench and playing the game.”

The Montreal line-up is scheduled to include Richard Sévigny, Patrice Brisebois, Alain Côté, Mathieu Dandenault, Gaston Gingras, Gilbert Delorme, Jocelyn Lemieux, Sergio Momesso, Stéphane Richer with Coach Guy Lafleur.

Meanwhile, County hockey great Ron Norton is putting together a County all-star team to take on the Habs. The diverse cross section of his team represents several years of County and Quinte hockey history and will include Tod Lavender, Justin Lavender, Rick Van Vlack, Mark Allison, Anthony Mann, Mike Howett, Brandon Wannamaker, Jim Etamanski, Tim Lloyd, Jonathon Wight, Jay Van Rossum, Jackie Jarrell, Phil Neary, Fred Knight and Paul Farquar.
