County-owned parking lot at Dunes beach now maintained for winter access to trails

The County-owned parking lot at Dunes beach is being maintained regularly by Sandbanks Provincial Park this winter to offer more parking options and enable safer access to Richardson’s Trail and the Dunes Trail for the public to explore by foot, cross-country ski or snowshoe.
The lot is located off County Road 12, south of the Dunes Beach day use area and the West Lake Campground entrance.
Future improvements include placing an even covering of gravel over the parking lot and grading the entrance to the adjoining trail. In addition, the park plans to place a garbage can, interpretive signage and a dispenser box for trail maps.
The public is invited to park in the lot free of charge and enjoy the park during the winter months though technically the park is closed.
The lot will be closed during the Provincial Park’s operating season (April 29 – Oct. 31).
