County Show opens Cannery Row Theatre Series

suzanneAfter a three year hiatus, Suzanne Pasternak returned The County Show to the stage – opening her Cannery Row Summer Theatre Series, on Sunday, at Waupoos Marina.

Locals and tourists enjoyed the storytelling and County folklore Pasternak has collected over the past 30 years.

Organized in support of the Bellwood Foundation for addiction awareness, Sunday’s event resonated with current news. Her tale of the Halifax Explosion of 1917 seemed tragically reminiscent of the recent disaster in Lac Mégantic, and an event in support of addiction treatment and awareness is well-timed given television’s Glee star Cory Monteith’s death on Saturday.

A second performance date is set for Sunday, July 21st, and will again have a matinee 2p.m. and an evening (8p.m.) show. A third live performance, this of Suzanne’s “County Rum Runners” musical, is set for Aug. 17th. A rock’n’roll night is scheduled for September 21st.

“This is so exciting,” says Pasternak. “The tour de force of talent on the stage is spectacular. I am so excited to have the great Mirvish star Peter Deiwick in the show. He was the star of Rock of Ages, and Mamma Mia in Toronto. He and Emily Fennell are a vocal powerhouse!”

Tom Leighton is the music director and Pasternak is co-producer along with Linda Bell. Rick Zimmerman, Natasha Pasternak and Mark Despault are also featured along with a group of Irish step dancers.

Tickets are $20 and are available at Books and Company in Picton, at Waupoos Marina and at the door.

Thank you to the entire cast of the County Show. We saw it this afternoon and it was terrific, and a lovely venue for it at the Waupoos Marina as well. If you haven’t seen the show yet, you still have time tonight at the evening performance!
