Mayor Steve Ferguson is expected to call a special meeting of council to speed up completion of the Ameliasbrgh Park washroom facility.
A report from the Development Services Department presented to Committee of the Whole Thursday, requested the contract between the municipality and Standard Paving Ltd. be terminated due to default by the contractor.
The new washroom and change room faciity in Ameliasburgh Park was tendered awarded in July 2018 stating a 16-week construction period.
“Non-performance meetings have been held with the contractor and multiple project completion date extensions ahve been granted but the project as still yet to be completed,” stated Garrett Osborne, project manager, in his report.
The facility was destroyed by fire in May of 2017. It was noted it had reached its useful life span and a capital budget was established in 2016 for a new facility. The existing washroom and change room would then be used as storage.
Following several meetings with the contractor, Osborne stated substantial completion was still not achieved by July 2019 and he was issued a notice of default stating that if substantial completion was not achieved prior to Aug. 16, the contract would be terminated.
The call for a special council meeting was recommended as the fastest route to remove the contractor and get the project finished by the municipality assuming the role of general contractor and hiring trades to complete the work.
