Prince Edward County’s biggest pumpkin and squash are being admired at 24 Sussex Drive this morning. Wellington Pumpkinfest’s top local pumpkin was grown by 16-year-old Glen Huffman, as a 4H project. He finished seventh with his 1,048-pound entry. It, and John Vincent’s 1,246 pound squash, were delivered to the Prime Minister’s residence by Glen’s parents Alvin and Sheila Huffman, along with John and Sue Vincent Sunday morning. John notes this is the second year they have taken pumpkins to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, but said this year’s specimens “are pretty ugly so it might be the last time we’re invited.” Also attending were Glen’s grandma and his uncle Jim Huffman. Every year, Laureen Harper and friends display approximately 300 pumpkins on the lawn of 24 Sussex Drive. The public is allowed onto the grounds to see the display.
Glen Huffman and family and John and Sue Vincent brought Prime Minister Stephen Harper and wife Laureen, Prince Edward County’s biggest pumpkin and squash. Above, Glen, 16, with his Grandma, his uncle Jim Huffman, Harper, Sheila Huffman and Alvin Huffman along with Glen’s largest pumpkin that weighed in at yesterday’s Pumpkinfest at Wellington at 1,048 lbs. Below, John and Sue Vincent with Stephen and Laureen Harper and John’s squash, that weighed in at 1246 pounds.
