Just over 90 people received free dental services valued at more than $22,000 last week.
Staff, friends, sponsors and volunteers hosted Dentistry from the Heart at the Picton Dental Centre Friday, Jan. 18. Dentistry from the Heart is a non-profit organization supported by a network of volunteer dental practices across North America, promoting free dental care for people in need.
“We offered free services – a filling, extraction or cleaning – to 92 patients, totalling $22,784.00 in dentistry,” said Amanda Downey, office manager. “We had 25 volunteers who offered their time and services, and many sponsors who offered generous donations (tents, heater, barbecue, portable toilet, food, beverages, dental supplies and equipment, patient give aways, etc.)”
The success of the day deems it to be an annual event for Picton Dental Centre, she said, with a plan to host again in January 2014.
“We are very proud to be a part of such a great community and were able to give back,” she added.
