Dolphins earn medals, qualify for regional championships

The Quinte Dolphin Swim team sent nine swimmers to the Nepean Sportsplex near Ottawa to compete in the first long course swim meet of the season against 10 swim clubs.
Mckinley Miller, 10, had a spectacular meet placing in all seven of his events including a bronze medal in the 400 freestyle. Miller achieved five more regional qualifying times and has already qualified for Eastern Ontario Regional championships to be held this summer.
Teammate Chase Colby, also 10-years-old, brought home the only gold medal for the Dolphins at this meet with a first place finish in the 50 backstroke. Chase also won bronze medals in both the 50 breaststroke and 200 freestyle. Additionally, he achieved qualifying times in two more events and has now also qualified for regional championships in June.
Rowan Colby, 8, placed in both the 50 back and 50 breaststroke and set new club records for 8 and under boys in the both the 50 and 100 metre freestyle, the previous records being set in 2004.
Annika Hudgin, 12, won bronze in the 50 backstroke and placed fifth in the 200 backstroke as well. Hudgin achieved two more qualifying times and will also be attending regional championships in June.
Younger sister Yelena Hudgin, 10, placed in the 50 and 200 breaststroke as well as the 100 backstroke. Yelena earned her first qualifying time for regional championships and requires two more times for entrance.
Abby Taylor, 16, placed in the 200 metre butterfly and swam personal best times in two other events.
