Dolphins swim for medals at Ottawa

Five swimmers from the Quinte Dolphins swim team attended meets in Ottawa earlier this month for the team’s first long course meet of the season.
The swimmers competed at Carleton University and finished the weekend at the Nepean Sports Complex.
Leading the team in points was 15-year-old Abby Taylor, from South Bay. Taylor placed in all six of her events Sunday, collecting 84 points for the team. Taylor won the bronze medal in the 50m freestyle, as well as a 4th, three 5ths, and an 8th place ribbon.
Yelena Hudgin, 9, of Bloomfield, won 54 points for her team in Ottawa. Hudgin won silver in the 50m breaststroke, 5th place in the 200 backstroke and had 3 additional top ten finishes on Sunday.
McKinley Miller, 9, of Picton placed 7th in the in the 50m backstroke and 8th in the 200m freestyle which earned 38 points for the team.
Annika Hudgin, 11, of Bloomfield won silver in the 50m breaststroke and had two additional top 10 finishes earning 37 team points. Hudgin got a head start on qualifying for regionals next year by achieving an age 12 regional qualifying time in her 50m freestyle race.
Fourteen-year-old Faith Elsbury, of Picton, also had two top 10 finishes, earning the team another 28 points.
Coach Jim Anfield will be accompanying eight swimmers to the Markham Pan Am centre this weekend. The Quinte Dolphins train at the PEFAC in Picton and offer classes that introduce children to competitive swimming.
