Donning jerseys to show support for Humboldt

Students at Prince Edward Collegiate Institue joined many County residents and businesses and thousands of Canadians who wore a sports jersey, or donned a green ribbon, on Thursday in honour of the victims of last week’s deadly bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team. The idea of trading in a weekday outfit for #JerseysForHumboldt was inspired by a group of British Columbia hockey moms to send a message of support for the families who lost loved ones in the Humboldt crash.
County residents have also joined the #Put your Stick Out trend to pay tribute to the 16 people who have died as a result of the crash last Friday night. Rob Garden photo
Prince Edward County councillors, showing their support for this year’s Nature Matters booklet, also donned jerseys in honour of Humboldt. This photo taken at the Committee of the Whole meeting by Gabrielle Holowacz.

I am amazed of the response of the general public. At my place of employment everyone has stepped up and participated in one way or another. This accident has caused a ripple effect that is much larger than most would have ever thought possible. I hope this show of support makes it back to the those who lost a friend or family member and to those who are still recovering from their injuries due to this terrible crash. May God be with you all.
