EV charger being removed from King Street lot

The County s removing the electric vehicle (EV) charger in the King Street parking lot in Picton Thursday as it is at the end of its life and is no longer serviced by the manufacturer.

The parking lot will remain open, but the work may impact some spaces in the lot.

The municipality will be installing new electric vehicle chargers at the Crystal Palace in Picton, the parking lot on Bloomfield Main Street, and the Wellington and District Community Centre. The machines are expected to be operational before the end of 2023.

The new EV chargers will be Level 2 chargers connected to the Flo charging network. These chargers are paid for through a grant from the Charged for Change Program, funded by Aviva Canada via Earth Day Canada. The Charged for Change program provides funding for Level 2 machines to be installed in communities that are under-served with electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The municipality is developing partnerships and securing funding required to install multiple publicly accessible DC Fast (Level 3) chargers in the County.
