A grand parade to the fairgrounds ushered in the 2012 Milford Fair which overflowed with the community’s finest in baked goods and preserves, flowers, photographs, pets, crafts, fun and games, food and entertainment. The Prince Edward County Libraries were this year’s fair highlight. Volunteers, staff and patrons showed their love of libraries in the parade and on the grounds.
Fair board president Valencia Logan thanked all the volunteers who work year round to make the fair a success. Councillor Barb Proctor welcomed everybody and made special note of welcoming Floral Minaker who celebrated her 100th birthday and was “here representing the roots of South Marysburgh.”
Murray Clapp Memorial Citizenship Awards were presented to honour community involvement and volunteer work by six citizens. Honored for 2012 were:
Tim Noxon organic and market farmer, volunteer firefighter and first responder;
Valerie Jackson, active community volunteer, fair board secretary, Regent Theatre volunteer, ACW member; founding member of the Save Mount Tabor Committee and chair and director for the Community Care access committee;
Janet Murphy who has volunteered with the diabetes association for 20 years and the Canadian Cancer Society for 30 years;
Judy Zelany who has worked with Scouts Canada for 35 years, the Kidney Foundation, recreation committee and at Milford Market Saturdays;
Barb Guernsey, an Eastern Star member and Cancer Society and Relay for Life fundraiser with the Black Crick Chicks; and
Annette Keough, a Black Crick Chicks founding member and Relay for Life participant.
