Rolling road closures and traffic disruptions will occur from on Sunday, Sept. 29 during the 21st annual County Marathon.
The marathon has been running here since 2003. This year, organizers are expecting about 600 participants.
The full run (42.2km) starts at 8 a.m. in Wellington, at the Niles Street ball diamond, heads to Bloomfield, then meets up with the half (21km) marathon (start 10 a.m.) at West Lake (corner of Roads 12 and 18); heading into the Sandbanks, along County Road 11, the 10 into Picton to the finish line at the Picton fairgrounds. Both races are Boston Marathon qualifiers.
For viewers to note, full marathon bibs are red, half marathon bibs are blue, and the ultra bibs are yellow on white. (The Ultra 50k runners do an additional loop on Lakeshore Lodge Road and Lakeview Trail).
Road closures are rolling, meaning roads will reopen when necessary and major intersections will be managed to keep traffic moving and allow vehicles through at regular intervals. The road closures are to be coordinated by a specialized road race company and the Ontario Provincial Police.
The following roads are to be closed at these times:
County Road 33 (Wellington to Bloomfield): 7:30 a.m. – 10 a.m.
County Road 12 (Bloomfield to Sandbanks): 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
County Road 11 and County Road 10 (Sandbanks to Picton): 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Picton Main Street (Lake Street to Washburn Street): 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
