Expect zombies downtown Picton on Monday – join in!

The annual Zombie Walk continues in Picton Monday as Erin Johnston picks up the bones of the event for the fifth year.
“The popular walk was originally started in our community by Christine Renaud at the
Picton Library as a simple idea and it has grown to a much anticipated seasonal event,” said Johnston.
“I saw how popular zombie walks were in cities and thought this would be a great way to get young people out and back to the library,” says Renaud, who has since left the library. “The walks were hugely successful with 80 to 90 people coming out. I’m thrilled this year’s event is being organized by Erin Johnston after learning that the library would not be holding the walk this year.
“It’s become a fun family event for my children and part of tradition of fall events in October along with the Scarecrow Festival, Thanksgiving and Halloween,” said Johnston. “It isn’t a coincidence that zombies have become a component to pop culture when things like technology, science, economics, population surge and politics are making our humanity feel so precarious.”
“Amongst the moans of the undead laughter, smiles and a fun feeling are felt throughout the crowd of walkers. It gives us all a chance to unplug, be silly and get messy,” she adds.
While some make up and help will be available, people are encouraged to arrive as zombies by about 6pm at the Picton Town Hall. The walk is to leave at 7pm. (route still to be determined because of Main Street construction). Food Not Bombs will be providing the hall space, snacks and hot apple cider at the event.
