Motivated by a family member battling cancer, seven-year-old Sadie Adams decided to clean out her closet and raise some money for Prince Edward County’s new hospital.
The Ameliasburgh resident gathered up her toys, books and shoes and set up shop with a yard sale at her grandmother’s house on Queen Street in Picton.
When Sadie handed over $90 in proceeds she raised, she told the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation she wanted to help everyone who requires care at their hometown hospital in a meaningful way.
A QHC staff member anonymously matched Sadie’s donation, and thanks to the current campaign with the Paul B. Helliwell Foundation, both donations will be matched two-to-one.
Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation, said Sadie is an inspiration and a bright light for staff, patients, their families and the entire community.
“We are so grateful for all of her hard work and support that will help make our dream of building a new hospital a reality. Sadie is a shining example of philanthropy in action.”
Sadie’s mom, Jennifer Kainz, said the family was thrilled with the support from everyone who visited the yard sale. “They were very generous. We want to extend a big thank you to them. I am also very proud that she used her time to do something so special for our new hospital.”
