Four candidates named for Bay of Quinte provincial by-election

A provincial by-election has been called for the electoral district of Bay of Quinte for Thursday, Sept. 19.

The Ontario PC Party announced Wednesday that Tyler Allsopp has been named the PC candidate for the district following the resignation of MPP Todd Smith Friday, Aug. 16.

Allsopp, former owner of Doug’s Bicycle, joined Belleville city council in 2021 and is chair of the police services board. He will request an unpaid leave of absence from council for the election period.

Amanda Robertson, NDP

Amanda Robertson, local school board trustee, was announced Thursday as the NDP candidate.

Robertson is a school board trustee representing Belleville/Thurlow, and vice chair of the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board. She lives in Belleville with her three children and husband, who is a local family doctor.

Sean Kelly

Belleville city councilor Sean Kelly will represent the Liberal Party for the Bay of Quinte by-election.

Kelly is the long-time program director at Quinte Broadcasting radio stations in Belleville. He is now serving his second term as a councillor for Ward 1 in Belleville.

Lori Borthwick

Lori Borthwick has been named the Bay of Quinte Green Party candidate.

She has been serving as the riding association president. She began her career as a respiratory therapist at the Belleville General Hospital, where she worked for more than 30 years.
