The community is showing its love for Don Stanton Sr., of Picton who was struck by a car while crossing the town hill, Tuesday.
Stanton, 87, is fine and in good spirits, reports grandson Evan Nash of Wellington, who started a Go Fund Me campaign page – not to raise funds for Stanton, but to fundraise in his honour for the local Kiwanis Club. He called it ‘Don’s Jay Walking Adventure’.
“Anyone who knows Don recognizes he has spent he majority of his life serving others through his countless volunteering endeavors,” he writes. “I am hoping to cheer him up while he is completing his short hospital stay by making a donation to his beloved Kiwanis Club.”
He has asked friends to throw in a few bucks “to help put a smile back on his mug. Maximum donation five dollars, please.”
The $500 goal has almost been reached. Click here to contribute.
“Don is a community icon,” wrote Peter and Barb Proctor with their donation.
“Stanton has been strolling through life always wearing the biggest smile on his face,” wrote Briar B. “The heart he wears on his sleeve is even bigger than that smile!”
