In the final stretch to meet a $250,000 fundraising goal, supporters of the Picton Splash Pad project walked the track at the Wellington arena Saturday.
“We were small in numbers but did a mighty job raising $2,000,” said chair Susan Quaiff. “Our youngest walker was Griffin Conder, 4, who raised $250.”
The group hopes it will be able to break ground for the nautical-themed 600-square-foot pad to be located at the Youth Skate Park at the Picton Fairgrounds. It will feature play areas for all ages, including a sea serpent that sprays water on a sail boat, water cannons, a tunnel and aqua dome. Project partners hope construction gets under way in April for a Canada 150 celebration grand opening on July 1.
Fundraising continues Friday with a roast beef dinner (servings from 5:30 to 7 p.m.) at the Picton United Church. A silent auction and draws will be held during the dinner. Cost is $15 per person (donation for children six to 12 appreciated; children under age five, free of charge).
Sponsorship opportunities – for names and logos on signs, plaques, fixtures, bench and walkway stones are also available. Call 613-847-3498 for details, or visit the Picton Splash Pad on Facebook
