Golfers tee up $22,548 for health care

Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital is the big winner of the first Teeing Up Fore Health Care golf classic.

Supporters of the  June 16 event bettered a hole-in-one by raising more than $22,000.00 net for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation

Realtors at RE/MAX Quinte Ltd. in Prince Edward County teed up their support to improve the care patients receive at Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital by directing the proceeds from the tournament toward the Hospital Foundation’s current $350,000 LIFE SAVER Campaign for medical equipment – including a replacement echocardiogram (ECG) machine, used for heart monitoring at PECMH at a cost of $23,000.

Nineteen foursomes teed off under sunny skies to enjoy 18 holes on the picturesque and challenging course at the Picton Golf and Country Club, a Par 72 course. Participants were then invited to a steak dinner catered by the Golf Club Grill.

“The Teeing Up Fore Health Care committee expressed thanks for tremendous support from the community To achieve a net of $22,000 in the first year of the event, they said, is truly outstanding.

Special thanks were extended to Wilkinson and Company Chartered Accountants who came in as the title sponsor for the tournament. Also chipping in support as corporate sponsors were Market High Advertising, Parkside Landscaping and Contracting, Wellings of Picton and McDougall Insurance and Financial. The Sorbara Group, on behalf of the Royal Hotel sponsored the dinner and Jamie Yeo of Sobey’s in Picton sponsored the barbecue lunch. Huff Estates donated the wine for the take away bags. Approximately 40 local businesses came on board as hole sponsors,” said Hazel Lloyst, director of development with the PECMH Foundation.

Picton Home Hardware and Building Centre donated the prizes for the hole activities. The winners of the various activities throughout the day were as follows:

A draw for a ride in the RE/MAX hot air balloon as well as an overnight stay and dinner for two at the Waring House was awarded to Curt Conder. The winner of the dinner for two at the Drake Devonshire was Bert Ginn. A $50 LCBO card donated by Wellings of Picton was won by Henry Goddard.

Planning for next year’s tournament is already under way.
