Grapes of Wrath obstacle mud run set for August

GrapesOfWrathColourThe Grapes of Wrath obstacle mud run will see another year of partnerships in support of local hospitals and the Cancer Society.

The Hastings Prince Edward and Brighton Cancer Society, the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation and the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation announced the second annual Grapes of Wrath obstacle mud run is set for Saturday, August 29 in Hillier.

The unique charity race, hosted at the Hillier Creek Estates Winery isn’t your average run. Last year’s event raised almost $80,000 as 420 participants and 55 teams overcame 14 obstacles over five kilometres in a torrential downpour.

This year’s event will see more obstacles, more involvement with the community, more mud and more fun while raising money for cancer care in local communities.

A number of the new obstacles are being constructed by local fire fighters and will be replicas of actual equipment they use in their gruelling training exercises in order to further challenge those who dare to push their personal and physical limits.

Members from the organizing committee, participants from last year, as well as representatives from Hillier Creek Estates, were on hand Monday morning to announce the event, tour the site and address questions.

Registration is open and competitors are encouraged to secure their spots at the starting line prior to May 31st in order to register at an early bird discounted rate. An early bird registration fee has been set at $75 per participant. After that date, registration will increase to $100 per participant. The race is open to individuals or teams of up to 20.

Competitors must be 18 years or older on race day to be eligible to run. Racers will receive a dry-fit t-shirt and upon completion of the race, dog tags. More information and registration links can be found by visiting the website, or on Facebook,

For those who are interested, but may not wish to participate, there are volunteer openings available. There are also sponsorship opportunities offered for interested businesses.
