The Picton Metro grocery store is kicking off a two-week fundraising initiative to raise funds to help the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation Back the Build for a new hospital.

Shoppers will be invited to donate $2 at the cash register as the promotion runs until Wednesday, August 11. Metro has also committed to matching the community’s donations up to $5,000.

Last year, the campaign raised $16,650 for the new hospital campaign. This year, management and staff at Metro are hoping to beat last year’s result. Thanks to the Paul B. Helliwell Foundation, any donation received through the cash register round up will be matched two-to-one – tripling the impact of each dollar donated.

“We could not achieve our goal of building a new hospital for the residents and visitors of Prince Edward County without support from the community and corporate partners like Metro,” said Shannon Coull, executive director of the PECMH Foundation. “This initiative will support the future of health care delivery in our community and we are honoured to have the support of the hard-working staff and loyal customers at Metro in Picton.”

Metro is proud to partner with the PECMH Foundation on the fundraiser that engages both residents and visitors for a second year.

“I am confident that the store employees and our generous customers will come together and exceed expectations and beat last year’s result,” said Andre Gagne, vice-president, Metro. “We know first-hand our employees feel connected to their community and they are committed to helping this campaign Back the Build for a new County hospital.”

“Our employees make us extremely proud and during these challenging times, they have chosen to keep providing for the community,” said Murray Lupenette, store manager of Picton Metro. “Raising money to support the building of our new hospital is a meaningful way to recognize and thank other frontline employees at the hospital. We are grateful to all of our customers who have supported this effort.”

“Metro continues to go above and beyond to help our community and residents and through this giving at the till it enables shoppers, even when it’s a couple of dollars, the opportunity to contribute to our new hospital. Thank you to everyone at Metro for your continued support and enthusiasm. You are incredible leaders in our community,” said Nancy Parks, Back the Build campaign co-chairperson.
